Gadhimai Multiple Campus (GMC) is a community-owned campus located in Mahagadhimai Municipality–01, Bariyarpur, Bara district, Madhesh Pradesh (Province No. 02), Nepal. Established in 2009 AD (2066 BS), the campus is affiliated with Tribhuvan University and approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Nepal.

GMC offers a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) program and aims to expand higher education access for students from local, low-income, and socially disadvantaged backgrounds, including female students, Dalit, Muslim, Janajati (including Tharu), and other marginalized groups. The campus serves students from surrounding municipalities and rural municipalities in the western Terai area of Madhesh Province.

Student Access

The campus works in an area where many families are described as low-income and dependent on daily labor. The campus community includes students from Indigenous (Janajati) communities such as the Tharu community, as well as Dalit, Muslim, and other marginalized groups.

The campus also highlights barriers that affect continuation in higher education, especially for female students:

• Difficulty managing tuition and basic living needs such as food and clothing

• Limited family support to complete higher studies

• Early marriage pressures, including dowry-related financial burdens on families

• Childbirth and childcare responsibilities

These factors are described as contributing to higher dropout rates in later years of study.

• To serve the community through quality education and research programs

• To develop the campus as an academic center supporting the western Terai area of Madhesh Province (Province No. 02)

Goals

• To extend academic programs to meet the academic needs of society

• To provide quality and practical education for producing competent and skilled human resources

• To enable students to apply skills in problem-solving and teamwork

• To support the academic growth of teaching and non-teaching staff

Objectives

• To introduce new academic programs as required in the area, including Agriculture, Engineering, Law, and Management

• To increase enrollment of female students and students from disadvantaged backgrounds, including Dalit, marginalized groups, Janajati (indigenous), Madheshi, disabled, deprived, disadvantaged, and Muslim students

• To strengthen public participation and the bond between the campus and the community

• To build moral and behavioral development through outreach and extension programs

• To increase graduation rates

• To support professional development of staff through study opportunities, research, and career-oriented trainings and workshops

• To strengthen academic research and develop effective administration
